Red List Index

Definition

The Red List Index is an index that measures changes in aggregate extinction risk across groups of species. It is based on the number of species in each category of extinction risk on The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (IUCN 2015) is expressed as changes in an index ranging from 0 to 1.

Data collection

The IUCN Red List is updated annually, and the Red list Indices for individual species reassessed are released accordingly. The reassessment of endangered groups included in the IUCN Red List should be conducted at least once every ten years, or ideally every four years
